Racing to the Future™ Parts Guideline for Modifying Slot Cars

This list shows all of the parts common to all slot cars, plus a few pieces that you may want to add to your Racing to the Future™ entry. This list also shows what changes are allowed for the competition and can also give you some ideas on what modifications you may want to make to your car.

Body Mount ClipYesBody mount clips may be altered or replaced. This includes 3rd party clips, tape or body tubes and pins to securely mount the body to a chassis. The body must stay secured to the chassis during competition.
Guide Pin/Guide FlagYesYou may alter or replace the guide pin/guide flag. This can include a guide flag unit that also has pick up braids (Slide Guides)
Pinion GearYesYou may use any pinion gears, plastic, nylon, metal or resin. Pinion Gears may be lightened, drilled, hardened or coated.
Idler Gear(s)YesYou may use any idler gears, plastic, nylon, metal or resin. Idler gears may be lightened, drilled, hardened or coated.
Cluster Gear(s)YesYou may use any cluster gear or assembly, plastic, nylon, metal or resin. Cluster Gears may be lightened, drilled, hardened or coated.
Crown GearYesYou may use any crown gears, plastic, nylon, metal or resin. Crown gears may be lightened, drilled, hardened or coated.
Spur GearYesYou may use any spur gears, plastic, nylon, metal or resin. Spur gears may be lightened, drilled, hardened or coated.
Axle Bushings
(Front and Rear)
YesAxle bushings may be replaced with a fixed metal or oil-lite bushing or by ball bearing units.
Front AxleYesYou may alter or replace the front axle. This can include, titanium, aluminum, steel, stainless steel and hollow axle units. You may use fixed or independently rotating front axle kits.
Rear AxleYesYou may alter or replace the front axle. This can include, titanium, aluminum, steel, stainless steel and hollow axle units.
Rear Hubs/RimsYesYou may use any rear hub/rim. That can include, plastic, delrin, nylon and metal units. They can be push -on, set screw and lock nut style. Flanged and double flanged hubs/rims are also allowed.
Front Hubs/RimsYesYou may use any front hub/rim. That can include, plastic, delrin, nylon and metal units. They can be push -on, set screw and lock nut style. Flanged and double flanged hubs/rims are also allowed.
Rear TiresYesYou may use tires made of any material, including rubber, rubber-silicon, silicon, sponge, silicon-coated sponge.
Front TiresYesYou may use any pick up shoe or pick up braid type, including pick up shoes/pick up braid of different metals (copper, beryllium, aluminum, silver, nickel-silver, gold, etc).

YesYou may use any pick up shoe or pick up braid type, including pick up shoes/pick up braid of different metals (copper, beryllium, aluminum, silver, nickel-silver, gold, etc).
Pick Up Shoe SpringsYesYou may use any pick up spring type.
Motor Brush
Tubes/Barrels
YesYou may use any motor brush tube type, including threaded units. You may use set screws or heat sinks with the threaded units.
Motor Brush SpringsYesYou may use any motor brush springs, including springs of different weights and tensions and of different metals (silver, gold, copper, etc).
Motor BrushesYesYou may use any motor brush including brushes of different lengths and of different metals (silver, gold, copper, etc).
ArmaturesLIMITEDYou may change the armature. HOWEVER, Armatures will be restricted to 5.8 Ohms (or higher) per pole in resistance. Any armature with a lower reading than 5.8 Ohms will not qualify to compete.
Armatures can be balanced and/or trued. Commutators can be trued and can be made of different metals including copper, beryllium, silver, nickel-silver and gold. The Armature rule also applies to armatures in canned motors.
Shunt Wires/
Jumper Wires
YesShunt or jumper wires are allowed, but must be between the pick up shoes and the brush tubes (or cups in a pancake chassis).
WeightsYesWeights may be added to the chassis or body. Any additional weight must be secured and not loose.
Additional MagnetsYesAdditional magnets may be added to the chassis or body. Any additional magnets must be secured and not loose.
Wheelie BarsYesWheelie bars are allowed, but cannot touch the track in such a way as to short the rails or cause damage.
BodyYesYou may use any body, plastic, Lexan, PETG, resin. The bodies must be complete and must be securely fixed to the chassis. Chassis without a body cannot qualify or compete.
