Racing to the Future™ Program Description

Racing to the Future™ began in the Fall of 2008 and has been a part of KY STLP (Student Technology Leadership Program) since the state championships of 2009. Racing to the Future™ has currently been adopted by various programs across 16 states and 3 countries and continues to grow each year.

Racing to the Future™ introduces mathematics, science, planning and engineering through the building and competition of 1:64th scale (H.O.) slot cars. These cars use scientific principles in physics and mathematics, such as electromagnetic motors, magnetism, gravitational and aerodynamic force to gain the highest performance in getting around a race track. By learning these scientific principles and applying them to our live racing laboratory, students learn how these systems and the science behind them work, in a fun and competitive form.

Our on-site visits introduce the cars and program to the students and teachers and gives the students an opportunity to learn about the science, math and history of racing, with slot cars and their larger, real life counterparts.
